Macarthur FC is preparing to bid farewell to veteran centre-back Damien Da Silva, who has announced his retirement from professional football following his final match for the Australian club. The former Caen and Rennes defender will play his last game on Friday, marking the end of an illustrious career before he turns 38 on May 17.
The club confirmed Da Silva's impending retirement in a post on Thursday, setting the stage for an emotional final outing. This pivotal match will see Macarthur FC, currently ninth in the Australian league standings, face Wellington on Friday at 11:35 French time. It serves as the 26th and final round of the season, adding extra significance to Da Silva's swansong.
Da Silva's career spans an impressive 365 professional matches, beginning his journey through the ranks at Bordeaux before making his senior debut with Niort. His dedication and skill saw him establish himself as a formidable presence in defence across multiple top-tier leagues.
His time in France was particularly notable, joining Caen in 2014 where he made 137 appearances over four seasons, solidifying his reputation in Ligue 1. He then moved to Rennes, where he enjoyed significant success, including lifting the prestigious Coupe de France trophy in 2019. He played 118 games and scored 8 goals across three full campaigns for Rennes.
Following his successful spell at Rennes, Da Silva joined Lyon in 2021, featuring 29 times for the club. His journey then took him to Australia with Melbourne in 2023, a brief return to Clermont for the 2024-2025 season, before ultimately signing with Macarthur FC in August 2025. He has since made 25 appearances for the Bulls, contributing significantly to the team's efforts in the A-League.
